SUPERSHINE at the NEUTRALPATH Capacity Building Program – Citizen Awareness and Engagement Strategies

SUPERSHINE recently participated at the NEUTRALPATH Capacity Building Program, which focused on Citizen Awareness and Engagement Strategies.

The capacity-building program is structured across different areas, such as financial and technical development. One of these areas is Social Innovation, and ICONS was invited as experts to address the topic of “Citizen Awareness and Engagement Strategy.”

To do so, ICONS first introduced the key concepts of “Citizen Awareness and Engagement Strategy” and then provided a practical demonstration of how to apply them through the SUPERSHINE case study.

The session highlighted that achieving climate neutrality is not only a technical challenge but also a social one, requiring collaboration across multiple stakeholders. Public administrations must actively integrate citizen perspectives into decision-making processes to develop effective and sustainable solutions.

Citizens play a pivotal role in shaping sustainable urban environments. They contribute in multiple ways:

  • As Energy Consumers, making daily choices about energy use, efficiency, and renewable sources.
  • As Advocates for Change, driving demand for clean energy policies, solutions, and innovations.

To support this, the training—delivered by ICONS, a member of the SUPERSHINE consortium—explored key intervention areas to foster effective citizen engagement in the energy transition.

SUPERSHINE’s Approach in Latvia, Denmark, and Italy

ICONS also presented SUPERSHINE’s approach to citizen engagement across Latvia, Denmark, and Italy. The project has successfully implemented phased engagement methods and digital platforms to involve citizens in decision-making processes. Through tailored strategies, SUPERSHINE has enhanced public participation and awareness in energy-efficient renovation efforts.

ICONS also presented the ‘roadmap for stakeholders engagement’ tool.

SUPERSHINE remains committed to fostering meaningful citizen engagement and contributing to the development of sustainable, climate-neutral urban environments.
