SUPERSHINE at Sustainable Places 2025: Two Workshops on Renovation and Market Uptake

October 9, 2025 , 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

SUPERSHINE will  contribute to two workshops during Sustainable Places 2025, joining forces with other European projects to foster collaboration, innovation, and impact in the field of sustainable renovation.

Morning session (11:00 – 12:30, Room 2)
Scaling impact: Collaborative pathways for sustainable building renovation in Europe
Organised within the Network of Building Renovation Projects, this interactive workshop co-led by CLR, MULTICARE, AEGIR, IAQS, REHOUSE, and SUPERSHINE—will highlight innovative and scalable approaches to renovation. Themes will include circularity, digitalisation, social inclusion, resilience, and policy alignment. Participants will be invited to explore synergies, exchange ideas, and shape strategies for stronger collective impact.

Representing SUPERSHINE, Dr. Paola Zerilli (University of York) will present the project’s approach to financing deep renovation in social housing districts. Her talk will spotlight the use of time-varying Social Discount Rates (SDR) to structure Public-Private Partnership (PPP) contracts—ensuring equitable risk-sharing among ESCOs, public authorities, and housing associations, while safeguarding bankability, emissions reduction, and affordability.

Afternoon session (16:00 – 17:30, Room 7)
From demonstration to deployment: Bridging the gap to market uptake
This workshop, led by our partner ICONS, will bring together SUPERSHINE with the participation of Dr.Paola Zerlli, DEDALUS, InEEXs, RENplusHOMES, and SIRCULAR. Designed in two parts, the session will first unpack common myths and challenges around replication, introducing a flexible framework to support scale-up, informed by ICONS’ cross-project expertise. The second part will move “from field to stage,” showcasing real experiences and lessons learned from demonstration sites, offering policymakers, cities, and developers practical tools for market deployment.

Through these two sessions, SUPERSHINE reinforces its commitment to advancing sustainable renovation and bridging the gap between research, practice, and market adoption across Europe.

By showcasing diverse perspectives from across Europe, the workshops aim to inspire inclusive, resilient and financially viable renovation pathways.
