The SUPERSHINE project has launched its Toolkit for Sustainable Building Renovation!
Designed as a practical, user-oriented resource, the toolkit brings together technical, environmental, and financial solutions to support inclusive and scalable renovation strategies across Europe, with a particular focus on vulnerable households.
The first set of the technical factsheet, focused on Energy Efficient Buildings, is now live. More thematic factsheets will follow, but you can already start exploring the first solutions and applying them in practice.
Developed within the SUPERSHINE Capacity Building Programme, the toolkit translates project results into clear, actionable guidance for policymakers, practitioners, municipalities, and investors.
Each factsheet is designed to:
- Simplify complex technical concepts
- Provide real-world, replicable solutions
- Support decision-making across different contexts
The first release focuses on one of the most critical pillars of sustainable renovation: improving building performance.
Envelope Insulation and Enhancement
Discover how improving the building envelope through:
- External insulation systems (ETICS)
- High-performance windows
- Shading devices
- Ventilated façades
- Green and smart façade systems
is one of the most effective ways to reduce energy demand and improve indoor comfort.
Integration of Renewables
Discover how buildings responsible for around 40% of global energy consumption and over one-third of greenhouse gas emissions can significantly reduce their impact through:
- Deep energy efficiency measures
- Integration of renewable energy systems
Learn how Zero Energy Buildings (ZEBs) balance annual energy demand with renewable production, delivering heating, cooling, electricity, and hot water with minimal environmental impact.
A New Design Paradigm
Discover how architecture and urban design can go beyond efficiency and actively enhance:
- Well-being and mental health
- Human behaviour and social interaction
- Environmental quality
Aligned with the principles of the New European Bauhaus, this approach integrates:
- Nature-Based Solutions
- Biophilic architecture
- Neuroarchitecture
- WELL Mind principles
to create spaces that foster emotional balance, cognitive performance, and social cohesion, especially in dense urban environments.
The SUPERSHINE Toolkit is not just a collection of resources it is a scalable framework for action. By combining technical innovation, environmental awareness, and financial feasibility, it enables stakeholders to:
- Tackle energy poverty
- Improve building performance
- Support low-carbon transitions
- Replicate solutions across Europe
More thematic batches will be released soon, expanding the toolkit with additional insights on low-carbon districts, financing models, and integrated urban strategies.
