Young Minds Shape Public Spaces: Co-Design Session in Trieste

A co-design session dedicated to young participants took place on January 20 at the Cobolli Recreation Center in Trieste, employing the design thinking methodology rooted in the principles of a “human-centered approach.” This methodology focuses on addressing individual needs to develop innovative solutions that respond effectively to these expressed demands.

The session began with a brief introduction to the project. Participants were then provided with a “Personas Canvas” worksheet, where they imagined the characteristics of the people who would use the project area. This exercise encouraged participants to articulate needs and desires concerning the design and use of public spaces.

Following a plenary discussion to share the defined user characteristics, the session moved into the prototyping phase. This stage enabled participants to creatively transition from conceptual ideas to tangible designs.

In small groups, participants constructed elements they envisioned incorporating into the project area. They used materials such as modeling clay, magazine cutouts, and cardboard to build their models.

The session concluded with all participants sharing their prototypes, fostering a collaborative and inspiring exchange of ideas.

This event highlighted the power of co-design and the importance of involving younger generations in shaping public spaces that truly reflect their needs and aspirations.
